As a not-for-profit corporation, Delta Dental of Oklahoma is committed to significant, ongoing contributions to all Oklahomans. They created the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation as a way to help facilitate dental health and education through the funding of oral health programs and outreach services reach the state’s most underserved people. In 2009, the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation and the Oklahoma Dental Association partnered to host the first Oklahoma Mission of Mercy event.
Oklahoma Mission of Mercy was a free two-day dental clinic was held in the Tulsa. It provided services such as cleanings, fillings, extractions and root canals. The event was a fully-functional dental clinic and surgery facility with 90 chairs and nearly 1,400 volunteers.
Goal:
Anglin Public Relations was retained to build awareness of the event and to provide media relations support. Our firm used a variety of strategies and actions to achieve the client’s goals including:
- Coordinating the announcement of the event at the Tulsa Convention Center.
 Speakers at the press conference included the Mayor of Tulsa, the chair of Oklahoma Mission of Mercy and the CEO and president of Delta Dental of Oklahoma.
- Developing materials such as a media kit, a news release and photo opportunities to inform the media about the unique event.
- Providing media assistance prior to the event and on-site during the event.
The event proved to be the largest of its kind in Oklahoma history. MoM dentists and volunteers treated more than 1,800 Oklahomans in its two-day run, exceeding the planned total by more than 200 patients. Anglin’s public relations efforts for Oklahoma Mission of Mercy helped generate nearly $300,000 in public relations value with more than 185 published news stories across a two month timeframe.
